Playing Games in Maths
Since the advent of the National Numeracy Strategy there has been quite an emphasis on "Mental" Maths or the ability to recall number facts quickly.
To try and speed up children's mathematical recall we sometimes "play" games in our lessons.

This is most of the boys of Class 2 playing Times Table Bingo.They have to calculate the answer to the question the "caller" gives them in their head and then see if it corresponds to a number on their board.
First one with a line shouts "Bingo!" and they become caller for the next game.
Another game to help them learn their "Times Tables" is where they turn over a card to decide which of the "Times Tables" they are answering; then they have to find the answers on the dice as quickly as they can.
